If this is your first time visiting the Eagle Build forum area, the first thing you will notice is that you may not see the posts you were expecting to see.

Once the main build was completed, all the posts were sifted through, updated organized and moved onto the Eagle Project Page which you can access from the menu above.

The remaining posts, may be of interest to you, thus they were left here.

IMPORTANT

If you have any questions at all about this build, please continue to post your questions here in the Eagle Forum. While the initial build may have ended, the support has not. Gene and other members who have participated in teh build will be here to answer any questions you may have.

Hi Gene
I am currently working on the main mast. The plans show a 6” diameter spar on the aft side of the mast. Is this a part of the main mast or a spare yard stored on board ship? How is it supported at the top and bottom? I hope I can finish my Eagle this year.
Thanks,

Hello Mike,

This spar in question is an integral part of the mainmast.  Take a look at the attachment below.  The heel of this mast fits into a semi-circular ledge built around the mast at a slight angle (sort of a spider band), with the semi-circular ledge supported by a knee below it.  The upper end fits into a small hole drilled into the top that rests on the hounds.

Unfortunately, the hole in the top is not shown in Crisman's masting illustrations.  But this is what I did in my model of the Eagle.  Note that the top edge of this small mast projects just long enough to fit into the top.

Hope this answers your question.  If not, I'd be happy to expand on this topic.

Gene
